Chapter one. The Man Who Sells The Clouds
Have you ever wondered why, some days the sun would be shining very brightly with not a cloud to be seen in the sky, and then on another day it never shines at all or at least not very brightly and the sky would be full of clouds? Well, if you are sitting comfortably I will tell you why.
High high above the clouds, living on sunbeams and rainbows, in a village called Fluffy-land, live the Fluffy's, they are a friendly fun loving, hardworking little people, they all live in fluffy houses that look like blue clouds, that’s why we can’t see them, because the houses are the same colour as the sky. The Fluffy's love to eat vegetables and fruit of all kinds, carrots, and cabbage, cherries and cauliflowers, potatoes, pears, and peas as well as peaches parsnips and plums, in fact, all kinds of fruit and vegetables.
Each day early in the morning the Fluffy's would leave fluffy-land to climb the long stairway to the sun, each of them with a little fluffy duster to polish it with, they would polish it till it shone brightly, to make the flowers and vegetables grow, and when they had finished, the man in the sun would pay them for their hard work.
In the evening when the sun went to sleep and the stars come out, sometimes they would play catch-a-star, throwing the stars to each other but if they missed a catch, the star would fall to earth leaving a trail behind it,
If you look carefully sometimes you can see a falling star, then you know that the Fluffy's are playing. Often they would play all night so the next day when they came to polish the sun, they would fall asleep because they had played for so long they were very very tired and didn’t make a very good job of polishing it, then the sun wouldn’t shine so much that day.
All the houses in Fluffy-land are very tidy with little gardens in the front and back, the Fluffy's love to grow flowers and vegetables of all kinds, they grew the flowers in the front and all the lovely vegetables in the back, but they had one very big problem, because they live so far above the clouds they would get lots and lots of lovely sunshine but no rain, and as you know all flowers and vegetables need the rain as well as the sun to be able to grow.
So each day with the money they earned polishing the sun, the Fluffy's would take their watering cans down to the man who lives in the clouds to buy some water, he would fill each can, full of clouds filled with water for the Fluffy's to take back to their gardens in fluffy-land, but the man who sells clouds is a very grumpy old man, and if the fluffy's had not made a very good job of polishing the sun that day, he would get very angry,
He would turn the clouds black and empty them of water so that it falls to the ground, leaving none for the Fluffy's. So now when the sun is shining brightly and there are not many clouds in the sky you will know why, the man who sells the clouds has sold them all to the Fluffy's to water their gardens, but if the sun is not shining and there are lots and lots of clouds in the sky watch out, because the man who sells the clouds might just get angry and empty them on you.
